Lesson visit Salaama School for the Blind

6 September 2025

During their visit to Uganda, our secretary Petra and her husband Michiel visited the Salaama School for the Blind, a project run by Africa Music School and supported by Music For Children. They saw how the children patiently take piano and guitar lessons from teacher Nathan, who is also blind. Teacher Faishan teaches them to sing, dance, and drum very well. So well, in fact, that they were allowed to compete in the regional competition between schools alongside the ‘regular’ schools, where they even came in fourth place.

The violin was a new instrument for these children! They listened attentively to Petra playing the violin, and Petra played a few songs together with the children. Afterwards, the children were allowed to try out the little violin Petra had brought with her, one by one.

Two weeks later, the Salaama kids had another special visitor: Isabella González Díaz, a French Horn player from Scotland. She brought along three advanced students from the Africa Music School: Jonah, Trevor, and Isaac. Isabella helps them to develop their professional and educational skills.

This time, the focus was on brass instruments. It was a very inspiring morning for everyone.
