Between 27 October and 23 November, Muziekschool Amsterdam and Muziekschool Amsterdam Noord are running a campaign for Stichting Muziek voor Kinderen (Music for Children Foundation). Pupils can take part in a three-week practice challenge and raise money for Music for Children’s projects.
This page contains all the information about this campaign. Students can register for the practice challenge here if they have not already done so. The sponsorship form and practice schedule are also available for download here.

More information about the practice challenge
When is the practice challenge? The practice challenge starts in the week after the autumn half-term holiday. You can choose which day of the week you want to start the challenge. For example, you could start on your lesson day. From that day onwards, you will practise your instrument for at least 15 minutes every day for 21 days. You can practise for longer, of course. You are allowed to take two days off, and your lesson day counts as a practice day.
What is the purpose of this campaign? The aim of this campaign is to give vulnerable children from countries such as Colombia and Uganda the same opportunity to experience music as you have. Life is quite difficult for them; they often have little money and sometimes no parents. Music brings joy back into their lives.
How do I find sponsors? Tip: print out the sponsorship form and show it to your parents, neighbours, grandparents, teacher or just anyone in your street. Explain the aim of the campaign and ask if they would like to make a small contribution.
I’m in! How can I sign up? Click here to open the registration form. Then print out the sponsorship form and the practice schedule, and you can start looking for sponsors!
Did you know…
Music for Children was founded by Monique Udo? She was a saxophone teacher at the Amsterdam Music School for many years. Monique loved to travel, and she saw that in countries such as India and Uganda, many children grew up in difficult circumstances. Monique started giving music lessons to these children. She also founded Music for Children to raise money so that instruments could be purchased and the children could also receive music lessons when she was in the Netherlands.
In 2015, five of Monique’s students from Uganda came to the Netherlands for a musical exchange. One of those Ugandan students, Claire, is now a music teacher for Music for Children herself.
Sadly, Monique passed away in 2021 from ALS, but the foundation and its objectives are alive and well!

During this campaign, we would like to showcase children from all over the world who enjoy making music. Would you like to be included? Send us (with your parents’ permission) a photo of you practising, and you will be featured on our Wall of Music Practice!
