On Friday 16 May, a special exchange took place. The pupils of HCMI in Kampala played together with pupils from the Ugandan music project Music Saves. All performances could be viewed via an online connection in various places around the world. This was very important for the children, because it allowed them to show what they had learned.
In the Netherlands, pupils from group 3 of the Lorentzschool in Leiden were able to enjoy the music of their peers in Uganda live. This was particularly special because the children of the Lorentzschool, who have been holding an annual sponsored run for Music for Children since 2023, were now in direct contact with the children they were campaigning for for the first time. In Kampala, there was lots of dancing and music-making, and in the classroom, everyone joined in with the drumming. The children in Year 3 also sang a song for their peers and made drawings of the musical instruments. Music for Children will ensure that the drawings are delivered to the children in Uganda!
Our directors Josien and Samira were able to watch a day full of performances live. Once again, we saw how much music means in the lives of these vulnerable children and how music can connect children worldwide.
